"The Diamond Age" is a science fiction novel written by Neal Stephenson and published in 1995. The novel is set in a futuristic world where technology has advanced to the point where nanotechnology is commonplace. The story follows the character of Nell, a young girl from a lower class neighborhood who comes into possession of a highly advanced interactive book called "The Young Lady's Illustrated Primer." The primer is designed to be a personal tutor and companion for a young girl, and Nell's experiences with it shape her into a highly capable and independent individual. The novel explores themes of education, social class, and the power of technology. It was critically acclaimed and won the Hugo award for best novel in 1996.
