Open Educational Resource Textbook Projects: A Look at Successes

There have been several successful open educational resource (OER) textbook projects that have made a significant impact in making educational materials more accessible and affordable for students. Some examples include:

  1. OpenStax: OpenStax is a nonprofit organization that creates high-quality, peer-reviewed OER textbooks in a variety of subjects, including science, math, and social sciences. Their textbooks have been adopted by over 6 million students at more than 6,000 institutions worldwide.

  2. Saylor Academy: Saylor Academy is a nonprofit organization that offers free online courses and resources, including OER textbooks, in subjects such as business, history, and science. They also offer self-paced, online proctored exams to help learners earn college credit.

  3. Connexions: Connexions is an open-source platform for creating, sharing, and finding OERs. It was created by Rice University and is now maintained by the non-profit organization, OpenStax. It offers a wide range of OER textbooks across many subjects.

  4. OpenSesame: OpenSesame is an e-learning marketplace that offers a wide range of OER courses and resources, including textbooks. They have a wide variety of subjects and the resources are developed by subject matter experts
