Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu

"Carmilla" is a Gothic novella by Irish author J. Sheridan Le Fanu, first published as a serial in The Dark Blue literary magazine in 1871-1872. The story follows a young woman named Laura who lives in a remote castle in Austria and becomes increasingly isolated as strange occurrences begin to happen. Laura becomes convinced that she is being visited by a vampire, Carmilla, who is preying on the young women of the area. "Carmilla" is considered a classic of vampire fiction and has been adapted into several films and other works.
